Metal Packaging Order Weight Calculator

Estimate net metal-packaging order weight from actual empty-unit weight and quantity, with entered shipment tare where applicable.

Use a saved product specification (optional)

Enter your values

First time using this calculator?

Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.

GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.

Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.

Help with order quantity

Enter the usable quantity you actually need. Waste, pack rounding or minimum order effects are added separately where required.

Additional measurements (optional) — some values entered

These are only needed for additional result units or a more detailed estimate. Entered values still affect the result when this section is closed.

Results update as you edit. Nothing is saved until you choose to.
Example result — replace the inputs

Net packaging order weight

350.000 kg
Gross shipment weight350.000 kg

Uses actual measured or specified weights for metal packaging. No mass is inferred from capacity or external dimensions.

Net kg = actual unit weight (g) × quantity ÷ 1,000; gross kg = net kg + transport packaging

35 × 10,000 ÷ 1,000 = 350 kg; + 0 = 350 kg gross
Example result — replace the sample valuesThe formula works, but the values are illustrative.

This is an illustrative example. Saved or transferred values must be checked against your job.

Calculated from your inputs. Confirm specifications with your supplier.

Vary one input and inspect net packaging order weight

All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.

The formula, made clear.

Net order weight = Actual unit weight × Quantity; Gross shipment = Net weight + Entered tare

The unit weight must match the exact can, tin, pail or other container being ordered. Capacity and external dimensions do not establish actual metal mass because wall construction, gauge and end design can differ. If ends or lids are shipped separately, establish whether they are included in the entered unit weight before totaling the order.

How to use this calculator

  1. 01

Enter measured or supplier-declared empty-unit weight.

  2. 02

Enter the quantity covered by the shipment.

  3. 03

Add applicable shipping tare and review the net and gross amounts.

A calculation you can check

The example scales a known metal-container tare weight to the order and keeps external shipment packaging separate.

Actual complete can / metal package weight
35 g
Order quantity
10000 units
Additional transport packaging weight
0 kg
35 × 10,000 ÷ 1,000 = 350 kg; + 0 = 350 kg gross
Net packaging order weight350.000 kg

Check the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
