Check the inputs before trusting the total.
These tools apply the formula displayed on each calculator page to the values you enter. A mathematically consistent result can still be unsuitable when its specification, units or cost boundary are wrong.
Units and dimensional checks
Convert lengths to consistent units before finding area. Multiply area in m² by GSM in g/m² and divide by 1,000 to obtain kilograms. For a uniform material, thickness in µm multiplied by density in g/cm³ gives estimated GSM. Multilayer structures require layer contributions and retained additions.
Reference definitions and metric prefixes: BIPM — The International System of Units and NIST — SI Units. These sources support the units framework; they do not endorse Nalyquo, validate our software or certify a particular resin density.
Input evidence takes priority
- Use supplier-measured complete GSM rather than estimating from a generic density where available.
- Use net material mass when converting material prices; keep core and shipment tare separate.
- Use the approved blank or web layout instead of guessing from finished package dimensions.
- Record whether freight, tooling and components are included before adding them.
Default material densities
The following values are editable planning assumptions used by the current tools. They are not grade-specific measurements and currently have no linked supplier certificate. Replace them with the actual technical data sheet or measured value. A material name does not establish composition or performance.
| Material | Default |
|---|---|
| LDPE | 0.92 |
| LLDPE | 0.92 |
| MDPE | 0.935 |
| HDPE | 0.95 |
| PE (generic) | 0.92 |
| PP | 0.905 |
| BOPP | 0.905 |
| CPP | 0.905 |
| PET / BOPET | 1.39 |
| PA6 / Nylon | 1.14 |
| EVOH | 1.19 |
| Aluminium foil | 2.7 |
Waste and rounding
Where waste is defined on gross input, gross requirement = net requirement ÷ (1 − loss fraction). For 1,000 kg of good output with 5% gross-input loss, this is 1,052.6316 kg. Adding 5% to net demand is a different convention. Preserve intermediate precision; round indivisible items or purchase quantities up as required by the actual order.
Verification and its limits
Before recent releases, the application build, TypeScript checks and internal-link checks were run. These checks establish software and page consistency, not independent engineering approval. Visible worked examples allow arithmetic to be reproduced; they are not supplier quotations or field-test results. We do not claim every possible input combination has been independently validated.
For an important purchase, reproduce the result using your approved specification and a second calculation. See the correction policy for what to record when a result differs.
