The purchasing question

A container-only aerosol quote and a component-system quote can describe different purchasing scopes. List the separately priced can, valve, actuator, cap and any other required component. Use the bill of materials approved for the product rather than assuming components are interchangeable.

Calculation method

Sum the prices of required components not already included in a combined quote. Multiply by equivalent set count, then allocate setup and freight on the actual order. Record component purchase quantities separately if minimum orders differ.

Worked example

An illustrative can at €0.22, valve at €0.06, actuator at €0.025 and cap at €0.015 total €0.32 per packaging set. For 50,000 sets the component subtotal is €16,000. A €0.31 combined-set quote would total €15,500 before separately billed charges.

These are packaging component costs, excluding product fill and processing. Price arithmetic does not establish pressure suitability, chemical compatibility or compliance. Verify approved component specifications through the responsible suppliers and operation before considering a substitution.

Checks before using the result

  • Confirm whether the valve and actuator are already included.
  • Match each item to the approved bill of materials.
  • Separate filling and processing from packaging component cost.

Common questions

Does the lowest component subtotal identify a suitable aerosol system?

No. The complete system must meet the application specification independently of the cost calculation.
