Shrink Sleeve Cost per Unit Calculator
Estimate shrink-sleeve film mass and material cost from layflat width, cut length and GSM. Use thickness and density when measured film GSM is unavailable.
Use a saved product specification (optional)
Enter your values
First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with film gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Help with process loss on gross input
Use a measured or supplier-confirmed percentage where possible. Check whether it applies to gross input or finished output; the formula below shows the basis used here.
Unit label only. No currency conversion.
Additional measurements (optional) — some values entered
These are only needed for additional result units or a more detailed estimate. Entered values still affect the result when this section is closed.
Film material cost per good sleeve
Layflat is half the opened tube circumference, so area includes both sides. Any extra seam overlap or edge trim is outside this nominal geometry.
Waste is a fraction of gross input lost. Gross requirement = good output ÷ (1 − waste/100).
Seaming, printing and conversion charges are separate unless entered.
Film cost/sleeve = (2 × layflat width × cut length) ÷ (1 − waste/100) × price/m²
(2 × 0.1 × 0.15) ÷ (1 − 5/100) × 0.195 = 0.0061578947/sleeveSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.

All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
A flattened tubular sleeve has two film faces, so its developed surface area is twice layflat width multiplied by cut length. GSM converts this area to film mass. A kilogram quote is converted to area cost before the gross-input waste allowance is applied. Use actual layflat dimensions and check whether any seam allowance belongs outside the simple tube-area allocation.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter sleeve layflat width and cut length.
- 02
Supply GSM or estimate it from film thickness and an editable density.
- 03
Enter material price and gross-input waste, then review sleeve and thousand-sleeve material costs.
