Thermoformed Part Material Weight Calculator
Calculate gross sheet material allocated to one thermoformed part from web width, machine pitch, parts across and sheet GSM.
Use a saved product specification (optional)
Enter your values
First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with web width
Measure the full width of the flat material from edge to edge, rather than the width of one finished pack. Choose the matching unit.
Help with sheet gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Gross sheet material allocation per part
This is gross web allocation, not finished part weight. The difference includes skeleton trim and any material outside the retained part.
Assumes one machine-direction row of parts per entered pitch; include all cavities across that repeat.
Gross g/part = web width (m) × machine pitch (m) ÷ parts across × sheet GSM
0.8 × 0.3 ÷ 4 × 600 = 36 g/partSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.
Save to a product project (optional)

Calculated from your inputs. Confirm specifications with your supplier.
How sensitive is this result to your assumptions?
Vary one input and inspect gross sheet material allocation per part
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
Each machine pitch consumes a rectangle of sheet. Dividing that area by the number of parts across allocates its mass to each nominal part position. This includes surrounding skeleton and layout material, so it is not necessarily the weight of the trimmed finished tray or cup. Weigh a finished sample to establish retained part mass.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter full forming-web width and machine pitch.
- 02
Enter parts across and actual sheet GSM.
- 03
Use the result as gross material allocation per part position.
A calculation you can check
The example apportions one pitch of thermoforming sheet across its part positions without treating the trim skeleton as retained part weight.

0.8 × 0.3 ÷ 4 × 600 = 36 g/partCheck the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
