Thermoformed Tray Cost per 1,000 Calculator
Estimate material and entered conversion cost for 1,000 good thermoformed trays using actual part weight and a gross-input waste rate.
Use a saved product specification (optional)
Enter your values
First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with resin price per kg
Use the price for one kilogram of the quoted material, excluding freight unless the quote explicitly combines them.
Help with process loss on gross input
Use a measured or supplier-confirmed percentage where possible. Check whether it applies to gross input or finished output; the formula below shows the basis used here.
Help with freight for this order
Enter the transport charge for the same shipment or order represented by the other fields. Use 0 only when the supplier has confirmed that freight is included.
Unit label only. No currency conversion.
Additional measurements (optional) — some values entered
These are only needed for additional result units or a more detailed estimate. Entered values still affect the result when this section is closed.
Cost per 1,000 trays
Waste is a fraction of gross input lost. Gross requirement = good output ÷ (1 − waste/100).
Scrap credit or internal regrind offsets are not automatically deducted. Conversion cost is included only as entered.
Tray cost/1,000 = (part g ÷ (1 − waste/100) ÷ 1,000 × resin price/kg + conversion/unit + freight ÷ quantity) × 1,000
(20 ÷ (1 − 5/100) ÷ 1,000 × 1.5 + 0.02 + 250 ÷ 10,000) × 1,000 = 76.57894737Saved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.

Vary one input and inspect cost per 1,000 trays
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
Numerically, grams per tray equals kilograms retained in 1,000 trays. Increase that retained requirement for the fraction of gross process input lost, then multiply by resin price. Add any entered conversion and freight costs on their stated bases. This provides a transparent cost build-up, but a resin-price model is not automatically a purchased thermoforming-sheet or finished-tray quotation.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter measured finished-tray weight and resin price.
- 02
Enter gross-input waste and any separate conversion charge.
- 03
Add freight allocation and review the thousand-good-tray result.
A calculation you can check
The example expands retained tray material to a gross input requirement and adds the entered processing and logistics contributions.

(20 ÷ (1 − 5/100) ÷ 1,000 × 1.5 + 0.02 + 250 ÷ 10,000) × 1,000 = 76.57894737Check the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
