Work through the task
- Use the real repeat, lanes and allocated web area for each material. Forming cavity area does not represent the complete purchased layout.
- Calculate forming and lidding consumption separately, with their own material specification and losses.
- Compare finished packs only when sealing, conversion and the component boundary match. Barrier and application qualification remain separate.

An illustrative net allocation of 0.01 m² forming web and 0.008 m² lidding per pack gives 100 m² forming and 80 m² lidding for 10,000 packs, before trim and losses. Different web allocations must not be averaged.
Use your supplier specification and quotation. These numbers demonstrate the arithmetic; they are not market prices or a packaging suitability assessment.
Checks before you decide
- Separate forming and lidding allocations
- Actual layout and loss convention
- Component-only versus finished sealed pack
