Corrugated Box Material Cost Calculator

Estimate board material cost per actual corrugated blank and per 1,000 boxes. Price the board by kilogram or square metre without inventing a blank from finished dimensions.

Use a saved product specification (optional)

Enter your values

First time using this calculator?

Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.

GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.

Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.

g/m²
Help with actual board gsm

GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.

EUR

Unit label only. No currency conversion.

Additional measurements (optional) — some values entered

These are only needed for additional result units or a more detailed estimate. Entered values still affect the result when this section is closed.

Board material cost per blank

€0.08000/blank
Board material cost per 1,000 boxes€80.00/1,000 boxes
Cost including entered conversion€0.08000/box
Including conversion per 1,000€80.00/1,000 boxes

Uses actual blank dimensions. Finished internal or external package dimensions do not establish an exact die-line blank.

Printing, cutting and gluing are excluded unless explicitly entered in the additional conversion field. No process waste is included.

Material/blank = actual blank area × price/m²; price/m² = price/kg × GSM ÷ 1,000 when quoted by mass

0.2 × 0.4 = 0.08/blank; additional conversion 0 gives 0.08/box

Vary one input and inspect board material cost per blank

All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.

The formula, made clear.

Cost/blank = Blank area × Price/m²; Price/m² = GSM ÷ 1,000 × Price/kg

Blank dimensions define the purchased board allocation for one box. Area pricing can be applied directly, while kilogram pricing first needs complete-board GSM. This cost retains the board consumed by the blank, including material subsequently removed by slots or cutouts. A finished supplier quote may include operations beyond the board material estimated here.

How to use this calculator

  1. 01

Enter the actual production blank length and width.

  2. 02

Select the board price basis and enter its matching price and GSM.

  3. 03

Add a separate conversion charge if needed, then compare board-only and conversion-inclusive costs.

A calculation you can check

The example allocates the cost of a specified corrugated board to one known box blank and scales it to a thousand-box material budget.

Actual blank width
500 mm
Actual blank length
400 mm
Actual board GSM
500 g/m²
Board price on selected basis
0.8 EUR
Converting / printing / gluing per box

0.2 × 0.4 = 0.08/blank; additional conversion 0 gives 0.08/box
Board material cost per blank€0.08000/blank

Check the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
