Gross Roll Weight Calculator

Add net film, core and protective-packaging weights to estimate gross roll weight. Enter the core weight directly or estimate it from hollow-cylinder geometry.

Use a saved product specification (optional)

Enter your values

First time using this calculator?

Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.

GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.

Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.

Help with net film weight

Use material weight only. Subtract the core, pallet and outer wrapping from a gross shipment or roll weight. Find the net value on the supplier sheet or weigh it separately.

Results update as you edit. Nothing is saved until you choose to.
Example result — replace the inputs

Gross roll weight

82.000 kg
Net film weight80.000 kg
Core weight1.500 kg
Packaging weight0.5000 kg

Gross weight = net film weight + core weight + packaging weight

80 + 1.5 + 0.5 = 82 kg
Example result — replace the sample valuesThe formula works, but the values are illustrative.

Vary one input and inspect gross roll weight

All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.

The formula, made clear.

Gross roll weight = Net film weight + Core weight + Packaging weight

Gross weight is the mass handled or shipped as one roll, while net weight is the film available for conversion. Keeping these quantities separate prevents the core from being treated as purchased film during price or yield calculations. A directly weighed empty core is preferable when available. The geometry option estimates core mass from its outside diameter, inside diameter, axial length and material density.

How to use this calculator

  1. 01

Enter the roll’s net film weight.

  2. 02

Use a known core tare or enter core dimensions and an editable density estimate.

  3. 03

Add the wrapping, end protection or other packaging carried with that roll.

A calculation you can check

The example assembles net film and non-film tare into a gross reel weight for handling or logistics planning.

Net film weight
80 kg
Core weight
1.5 kg
Wrapping / packaging weight
0.5 kg
80 + 1.5 + 0.5 = 82 kg
Gross roll weight82.000 kg

Check the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
