Roll Weight from Length Calculator
Calculate a roll’s net film weight from winding length, web width and GSM. Use it to check nominal reel weights or translate a length-based production plan into material mass.
Use a saved product specification (optional)

First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with web width
Measure the full width of the flat material from edge to edge, rather than the width of one finished pack. Choose the matching unit.
Use actual supplier or measured GSM when available.
Help with film gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Net roll film weight
Excludes the core and all outer packaging.
Weight (kg) = length (m) × width (m) × GSM ÷ 1,000
1,000 × 0.8 × 80 ÷ 1,000 = 64 kgSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.
Save to a product project (optional)

Vary one input and inspect net roll film weight
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
Length multiplied by width gives the film area on the roll. Multiplying that area by GSM gives grams of film, which are converted to kilograms. The result is net film content and excludes the core, end protection, wrapping and pallet. For a laminate, enter total GSM including adhesive, print and coatings to avoid understating the material weight.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter roll length and full web width, checking the selected units.
- 02
Enter the average GSM of the delivered film structure.
- 03
Review net film mass; use the gross-roll calculator when planning handling or shipping weights.
A calculation you can check
The example estimates net material mass for a reel specified by width, length and complete-film basis weight.

Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
