Packs per kg Calculator
Estimate nominal pack output from one kilogram of film using web width, repeat, lanes and GSM. The layout connects purchased film mass with its finished-unit allocation.

First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with web width
Measure the full width of the flat material from edge to edge, rather than the width of one finished pack. Choose the matching unit.
Use actual supplier or measured GSM when available.
Help with film gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Nominal packs per kg
Nominal yield before process waste. Use the actual production web geometry, not only finished face dimensions.
Packs/kg = 1,000 ÷ (width (m) × repeat (m) ÷ lanes × GSM)
1,000 ÷ (0.8 × 0.25 ÷ 2 × 80) = 125 packs/kgSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.
Save to a product project (optional)

Vary one input and inspect nominal packs per kg
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
Full web width multiplied by repeat gives the area consumed by one machine repeat. Dividing by lanes allocates that area to one nominal pack. Multiplying by GSM gives grams per pack, and dividing 1,000 grams by that mass gives packs per kilogram. The web method captures film allocated to seals and layout margins when those are already present in the full width and repeat dimensions.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter full purchased web width and the production repeat.
- 02
Set the lane count and complete-film GSM.
- 03
Review nominal units per kilogram before accounting for any additional process waste.
A calculation you can check
The example determines how many nominal pack allocations fit into a kilogram of the specified production web.

Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
