Paper Bag Blank Weight Calculator
Calculate paper-bag or sack blank weight from actual blank area and the combined GSM of its paper plies. Add coating or film mass only when explicitly entered.
Use a saved product specification (optional)
Enter your values
First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with effective total gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Additional measurements (optional) — some values entered
These are only needed for additional result units or a more detailed estimate. Entered values still affect the result when this section is closed.
Enter only if not already included in the effective total GSM.
Estimated actual blank weight
Uses actual blank area or an effective area known from the production specification. Bag face dimensions, gussets and seam style do not establish an exact blank.
Enter coating or film additions only once. Handles and separate fittings are excluded.
Blank g = actual blank area × (sum of paper-ply GSM + explicit added coating / film GSM)
0.5 × (160 + 0) = 80 gSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.

Vary one input and inspect estimated actual blank weight
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
For a multiwall blank, add the basis weights of the paper plies covering the entered area. Multiply total effective GSM by that actual area to obtain mass. Different ply geometries require separate area-based calculations rather than assuming every layer has the same extent. Finished bag dimensions alone do not establish an exact blank because folds, seams and gussets change the material layout.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter actual blank area from the production specification.
- 02
Choose entered effective total GSM or individual paper-ply GSM, then add only coatings or film not already included.
- 03
Review combined GSM and calculated blank mass.
A calculation you can check
The example adds the declared basis weights of a multiwall blank’s layers before applying its verified area.
- Actual blank area
- 0.5 m²
- Effective total GSM
- 160 g/m²
- Additional coating / film GSM
- 0 g/m²
0.5 × (160 + 0) = 80 gCheck the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
