Price the intended packaging configuration
Record nominal capacity, neck finish, bottle material and weight, and the closure or seal specification. A price for the container alone has a narrower scope than a complete decorated bottle with its closure. Compare the intended configuration and state what is supplied separately.
Physical compatibility and product suitability require supplier evidence and trials where relevant. The calculator cannot establish sealing performance, chemical compatibility, barrier properties or regulatory compliance. Equal volume or equal weight is not a substitute for that review.
Add excluded components without duplication
For an illustrative complete pack, a EUR 0.20 bottle, EUR 0.08 closure and EUR 0.02 decoration give EUR 0.30 in variable cost. Enter EUR 0.20 as the bottle quote and EUR 0.10 as separately charged additions. If EUR 0.30 already includes the closure and decoration, additions are zero.
For a 10,000-unit order, EUR 250 freight and EUR 500 first-order tooling produce EUR 3,750. With no repeat tooling charge, the same order totals EUR 3,250. Both comparisons depend on a supplier price valid at that quantity and on the stated shipping boundary.
Use accepted quantity as an explicit scenario
If a buyer plans for 2% unusable units, 10,000 usable bottles require approximately 10,204.082 purchased bottles before rounding. With cases of 100, the purchase quantity is 10,300 and expected usable quantity is 10,094. The expected 94-unit usable surplus differs from the 206 units assumed unusable.
At EUR 0.30 per purchased unit, EUR 250 freight and EUR 500 tooling, that scenario totals EUR 3,840. Allocating the cash to the required 10,000 usable units gives EUR 0.384. Do not turn the illustrative 2% into a default industry loss rate: use your own relevant data, or state that the loss assumption is unknown.
Review the supplier offer with the result
The bottle comparison can handle unit, thousand and case quotes. Keep the commercial case count separate from pallet or shipment descriptions. A pallet count alone is insufficient unless its number of bottles is confirmed.
Print or export the comparison with component scope, loss assumptions and unresolved specifications. Delivery timing, handling requirements and suitability remain part of the purchasing decision even when the arithmetic favours one offer.
Common questions
Does the tool include closures automatically?
No. Enter separately charged closure, seal and decoration costs, or zero when already included.
Does an entered loss rate certify usable output?
No. It is a planning scenario based on the value you enter, not an acceptance guarantee.
