Film Price per m² to kg Calculator

Translate an area-based film quotation into an equivalent price per kilogram. The conversion uses GSM to connect the purchased surface area with its net material weight.

Use a saved product specification (optional)

Enter your values

First time using this calculator?

Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.

GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.

Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.

EUR/m²

Label only. No exchange-rate conversion.

g/m²

Use actual supplier or measured GSM when available.

Help with film gsm

GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.

Example result — replace the inputs

Equivalent price per kg

€3.0000/kg
Film yield12.50 m²/kg

Price/kg = price/m² × 1,000 ÷ GSM

0.24 × 1,000 ÷ 80 = 3/kg

The formula, made clear.

Price/kg = Price/m² × 1,000 ÷ GSM

One kilogram contains 1,000 ÷ GSM square metres. Multiplying this yield by the area price produces a kilogram price for the same film. At a fixed price per square metre, a lighter structure has a higher equivalent price per kilogram because the kilogram contains more saleable area. This conversion is useful for checking a purchase order against a supplier invoice, but a lower kilogram price does not by itself imply lower packaging cost.

How to use this calculator

  1. 01

Enter the quoted price per square metre in the selected currency.

  2. 02

Enter the GSM of the delivered film or estimate it from a known material and thickness.

  3. 03

Compare the kilogram result using the same freight, tooling and specification assumptions as the original quote.

A calculation you can check

A purchasing team receives an area-based laminate offer but budgets film consumption in kilograms. The example converts that quotation while keeping the underlying material value unchanged.

Film price per m²
0.24 EUR/m²
Film GSM
80 g/m²
0.24 × 1,000 ÷ 80 = 3/kg
Equivalent price per kg€3.0000/kg

Check the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
