Film Price per kg to m² Calculator

Convert a film quotation from price per kilogram to price per square metre using its basis weight. This gives purchasing teams an area-based price for comparing films with different yields.

Use a saved product specification (optional)

Enter your values

First time using this calculator?

Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.

GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.

Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.

EUR/kg
Help with film price per kg

Use the price for one kilogram of the quoted material, excluding freight unless the quote explicitly combines them.

Label only. No exchange-rate conversion.

g/m²

Use actual supplier or measured GSM when available.

Help with film gsm

GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.

Equivalent price per m²

€0.2400/m²
Film yield12.50 m²/kg
Weight per 1,000 m²80.00 kg/1,000 m²
GSM used80.00 g/m²

Uses the entered supplier or measured GSM without a density-based estimate.

Price/m² = price/kg × GSM ÷ 1,000

3 × 80 ÷ 1,000 = 0.24/m²

The formula, made clear.

Price/m² = Price/kg × GSM ÷ 1,000

GSM is the mass of one square metre in grams. Dividing it by 1,000 gives kilograms per square metre; multiplying that mass by the quoted kilogram price gives the equivalent area price. A heavier film therefore costs more per square metre at the same price per kilogram. Use the GSM of the complete supplied structure, including adhesive, ink and coatings where applicable. A price comparison based only on kilogram prices can conceal this difference in usable area.

How to use this calculator

  1. 01

Enter the supplier price per kilogram and select its currency.

  2. 02

Use measured or supplier-declared GSM when available. Otherwise estimate GSM from thickness and an editable material density.

  3. 03

Read the area price alongside film yield and kilograms per 1,000 m².

A calculation you can check

The worked example shows how a buyer translates a mass-based rollstock quotation into an area price before comparing it with an offer quoted directly per square metre.

Check the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
