Film Yield m²/kg Calculator
Find how many square metres of film are contained in one kilogram. Area yield helps translate mass-based purchases into available web area and compare structures with different basis weights.

First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Use actual supplier or measured GSM when available.
Help with film gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Film yield
This is nominal material yield before process waste.
Yield (m²/kg) = 1,000 ÷ GSM
1,000 ÷ 80 = 12.5 m²/kgSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.

Calculated from your inputs. Confirm specifications with your supplier.

Vary one input and inspect film yield
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
One kilogram contains 1,000 grams. Dividing by the grams needed for one square metre gives the area available per kilogram. Lower GSM increases area yield, so a lighter film can cover more packaging area from the same purchased mass. Yield is the reciprocal of kilograms per square metre; it does not depend on roll width. Width is required only when converting that area into running metres.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter the GSM of the complete purchased film structure.
- 02
Read theoretical square metres per kilogram.
- 03
Use the yield with purchased net weight, or pair it with price per kilogram to evaluate price per square metre.
A calculation you can check
The example shows the theoretical web area available from a kilogram of film at the stated basis weight.

Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
