Linear Meters per kg Calculator
Calculate running length available from one kilogram of film at a given width and GSM. Use it to connect weight-based purchasing with length-based machine consumption.
Use a saved product specification (optional)

First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with web width
Measure the full width of the flat material from edge to edge, rather than the width of one finished pack. Choose the matching unit.
Use actual supplier or measured GSM when available.
Help with film gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Linear meters per kg
Meters/kg = 1,000 ÷ (width (m) × GSM)
1,000 ÷ (0.8 × 80) = 15.625 m/kgSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.
Save to a product project (optional)

Calculated from your inputs. Confirm specifications with your supplier.
How sensitive is this result to your assumptions?
Vary one input and inspect linear meters per kg
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
One running metre has an area equal to the web width in metres. Multiplying by GSM gives grams per running metre, and dividing 1,000 grams by that mass gives running metres per kilogram. A narrower slit web therefore provides more running length from the same mass than a wider web of identical GSM. That does not change the square-metre yield, which depends only on basis weight.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter the full width of the roll being purchased or consumed.
- 02
Supply the GSM of its complete film structure.
- 03
Use the resulting length yield to estimate running metres from a known net weight.
A calculation you can check

Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
