kg per 1,000 m² Calculator

Convert film GSM into kilograms required for 1,000 square metres. The numerical value stays the same, while the quantity and unit change.

Use a saved product specification (optional)

Enter your values

First time using this calculator?

Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.

GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.

Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.

g/m²

Use actual supplier or measured GSM when available.

Help with film gsm

GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.

Results update as you edit. Nothing is saved until you choose to.
Example result — replace the inputs

Net film per 1,000 m²

80.00 kg/1,000 m²

The equal numeric values come from the matching factors of 1,000, not from GSM and kilograms being the same unit.

kg/1,000 m² = GSM × 1,000 m² ÷ 1,000 g/kg = GSM

80 × 1,000 ÷ 1,000 = 80 kg/1,000 m²

The formula, made clear.

kg/1,000 m² = GSM × 1,000 m² ÷ 1,000 g/kg = GSM

GSM means grams per square metre. Multiplying by 1,000 square metres gives grams for that area, then dividing by 1,000 converts grams to kilograms. The two factors cancel. This convenient relationship lets buyers translate an area requirement into a quick mass estimate without confusing grams per square metre with kilograms per square metre.

How to use this calculator

  1. 01

    Enter complete-film GSM.

  2. 02

Read the same numerical value as kilograms per 1,000 m².

  3. 03

Scale by the number of thousand-square-metre lots required.

A calculation you can check

The example restates a film’s basis weight as the net kilograms represented by an area lot of 1,000 square metres.

Check the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
