Folding Carton Weight Calculator
Estimate folding-carton board weight from an actual blank and board GSM. Deduct cutout material only when a removal percentage is explicitly entered.
Use a saved product specification (optional)

First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with actual paperboard gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Estimated carton board weight
Uses actual blank dimensions. Finished internal or external package dimensions do not establish an exact die-line blank.
Cutout percentage describes material removed from this blank, not production yield loss. Adhesives, ink and accessories are excluded unless already included in measured GSM.
Retained weight (kg) = blank length × blank width × GSM ÷ 1,000 × (1 − cutout/100)
0.4 × 0.5 × 300 ÷ 1,000 × (1 − 0/100) = 0.06 kg = 60 gSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.

Vary one input and inspect estimated carton board weight
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
The full rectangular blank area multiplied by GSM gives its starting board mass. An entered removal rate subtracts material cut away from that rectangle. The answer is a board-weight estimate, which can differ from the complete finished carton after coating, film windows, foil, glue and other additions.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter verified blank dimensions and board GSM.
- 02
Enter the known removal fraction, or leave it at zero when no deduction is justified.
- 03
Compare the retained board estimate with a finished sample if total unit weight is needed.
A calculation you can check
The example estimates the board remaining in a carton after an explicitly entered fraction of its rectangular blank is removed.

Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
