Carton Blank Area Calculator
Calculate a folding-carton blank’s rectangular area from actual blank dimensions. Use this area as the starting point for board weight and material costing.
Use a saved product specification (optional)
Enter your values
First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Actual rectangular blank area
Uses actual blank dimensions. Finished internal or external package dimensions do not establish an exact die-line blank.
This rectangular area is a purchasing allocation; it does not subtract die-cut voids or prove an optimal nesting layout.
Blank area (m²) = actual blank width (m) × actual blank length (m)
0.5 × 0.4 = 0.2 m²Saved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.
Save to a product project (optional)

Calculated from your inputs. Confirm specifications with your supplier.
How sensitive is this result to your assumptions?
Vary one input and inspect actual rectangular blank area
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
Finished carton dimensions do not uniquely establish the unfolded blank. Tuck flaps, glue joints, closures and panel arrangement all affect the dieline. Enter the dimensions of the actual production blank or its stated rectangular footprint. The result is a rectangle and includes any spaces or cutouts inside that footprint unless their removal is addressed separately.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Obtain the actual blank dimensions from the dieline or converter.
- 02
Enter length and width using their correct units.
- 03
Use the area with board GSM or area price in the related calculators.
A calculation you can check
The example converts a confirmed folding-carton blank footprint into square metres for material planning.
- Actual blank width
- 500 mm
- Actual blank length
- 400 mm
0.5 × 0.4 = 0.2 m²Check the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
