Establish the measurement and quote basis
Separate product material, core, wrapping, pallet and other shipping accessories. The supplier invoice basis and the logistics mass can both be valid while describing different things.
Record the SKU, date, source document and unit beside the observation. Mark an estimate as provisional so it cannot be mistaken for supplier-confirmed data.
Worked purchasing example
A 125 kg gross paper reel with 5 kg core and wrap contains 120 kg paper. At 120 GSM and 1 m width, the calculated length is 1,000 m; using gross mass gives 1,041.667 m.
These figures are illustrative arithmetic, not market prices or a promised saving. Replace them with measurements and offers covering your actual job.
Turn the result into a decision
Use net material for yield and material-price conversion, gross shipment mass for freight checks. A catalogue core weight is provisional until checked.
Use the linked calculator to check the same boundary, then include complete known order charges in comparison. Preserve unresolved items in the specification rather than replacing them with zero.
Common questions
Can I subtract pallet tare per roll?
Only when the pallet mass is allocated across the actual rolls in that shipment. Subtracting the whole pallet from every roll would count the tare repeatedly.
Are the example prices current supplier quotes?
No. They are illustrative values chosen to demonstrate the calculation. Enter current confirmed offers for the same specification and quantity.
