Work through the task
- Record actual width, GSM and running length. If weighing the reel, identify core and wrapping tare separately.
- Estimate the usable contents of a partly used roll with the appropriate measurement. Diameter models require actual thickness and winding assumptions.
- Calculate whole rolls for the job and retain surplus separately from a stated unusable fraction. Value the purchased contents using the supplier price.
Tools for this job
Roll Weight from Length Calculator
Calculate net film roll weight from running length, web width and GSM, excluding the core and wrapping.
Open calculator →Remaining Film on Roll Calculator
Estimate remaining length and area from the current roll diameter, and remaining weight when GSM is known.
Open calculator →Rolls Required Calculator
Round required roll count upward from weight or running length and see the resulting excess material.
Open calculator →Film Price per Roll Calculator
Value a roll by its net film weight or total area, with optional dimensional checks for equivalent unit prices.

A 0.8 m wide roll with 5,000 m at 60 GSM contains 4,000 m² and 240 kg net film. A job requiring 12,000 usable metres needs three such complete rolls with no assumed loss, leaving 3,000 m nominal surplus.
Use your supplier specification and quotation. These numbers demonstrate the arithmetic; they are not market prices or a packaging suitability assessment.
Checks before you decide
- Net contents versus gross reel weight
- Usable length and declared loss convention
- Whole-roll purchasing and leftover stock
