Folding carton board and order planning

Use dielines, layout and finishing scope to plan paperboard consumption and carton purchasing.

Work through the task

  1. Use the approved blank envelope or dieline convention required by the calculator. Flaps and glue tabs must not disappear from the input.
  2. Check complete blanks in each layout orientation and whether grain, print and machine constraints permit it. An area ratio is not an approved layout.
  3. Translate purchased board into the agreed finished-carton price scope and compare finishing, die-cut setup and order charges.

Tools for this job

A worked example

A 0.5 × 0.4 m blank envelope has 0.20 m² area. At 300 GSM it represents 60 g of board. Ten thousand envelopes represent 600 kg before layout and process losses; cutouts do not automatically reduce purchased sheet cost.

Use your supplier specification and quotation. These numbers demonstrate the arithmetic; they are not market prices or a packaging suitability assessment.

Checks before you decide

  • Approved dieline and grain direction
  • Purchased envelope versus retained mass
  • Print, glue and finishing included in quote
