Film price normalization

Put kg, square-metre and running-metre film prices on a shared purchasing basis.

Work through the task

  1. Identify net material quantity and the original quoted unit. A reel price needs its actual net contents, not gross weight including the core.
  2. Use measured complete-structure GSM for mass-to-area conversions and actual web width for running metres. Keep estimated GSM visibly provisional.
  3. Transfer a verified price into comparison, then add the other supplier, shipment quantity and explicitly known freight and tooling.

A worked example

Illustrative film at 60 GSM and EUR 3/kg costs EUR 0.18/m². At 0.8 m width it costs EUR 0.144 per running metre. These conversions describe material price; delivery and setup are additional unless included in the quote.

Use your supplier specification and quotation. These numbers demonstrate the arithmetic; they are not market prices or a packaging suitability assessment.

Checks before you decide

  • Original price unit and currency
  • Measured GSM of the complete film
  • Actual width and matching specification
