Work through the task
- Define each substrate with actual thickness and density or measured GSM. A multilayer web must include every layer in its supplied scope.
- Add retained dry adhesive, ink and coatings only when they are not already included in substrate or measured total GSM. Wet application mass uses a different boundary.
- Calculate area cost and order consumption. Confirm conversion charges separately before treating a material estimate as a complete supplier offer.
Tools for this job
Laminate GSM Calculator
Build one to six material layers and account for dry adhesive, ink and coatings to estimate total laminate basis weight.
Open calculator →Adhesive Consumption Calculator
Calculate dry and wet adhesive requirements from laminate area, target dry coat weight and adhesive solids content.
Open calculator →Laminate Cost per m² Calculator
Cost each material layer from thickness, density and price per kilogram, then add adhesive, ink and coating costs.
Open calculator →Flexible Packaging Quote Comparison Calculator
Normalize two to four supplier quotations across weight, area, roll and pack bases, with explicit specification and currency checks.

Illustrative 12 µm film at 1.40 g/cm³ contributes 16.8 GSM; 50 µm at 0.92 contributes 46 GSM. With 2.5 GSM dry adhesive, total GSM is 65.3 and 10,000 m² contains 653 kg.
Use your supplier specification and quotation. These numbers demonstrate the arithmetic; they are not market prices or a packaging suitability assessment.
Checks before you decide
- Substrate versus complete-laminate GSM
- Dry retained coat weight
- Material-only versus converted-film quote
