Work through the task
- Use the actual repeat and number of lanes, not a nominal face dimension that excludes seals or trim.
- Calculate nominal output per running metre or roll, then apply the selected loss convention to the good-output requirement.
- Translate the production requirement to purchased material and whole reels. Machine performance and seal qualification remain separate checks.
Tools for this job
Units per Linear Meter Calculator
Convert pack repeat and lane count into units per running meter and meters per standard production quantities.
Open calculator →Packs per Roll Calculator
Calculate theoretical and waste-adjusted finished packs from roll length, pack repeat and the number of lanes.
Open calculator →Material Required for Order Calculator
Plan gross film length, area and weight for a target quantity of good packs, allowing for process waste on gross input.
Open calculator →Waste-Adjusted Film Requirement Calculator
Calculate gross input required to deliver a net film quantity when waste is a percentage of gross material consumed.
Open calculator →A worked example
A 0.25 m repeat with two lanes gives eight nominal units per running metre. A target of 80,000 good units needs 10,000 m before losses, or about 10,204.082 m with a 2% gross-input loss assumption.
Use your supplier specification and quotation. These numbers demonstrate the arithmetic; they are not market prices or a packaging suitability assessment.
Checks before you decide
- Verified repeat and lanes
- Good output versus gross input
- Trim, startup and loss scope
