Units per Linear Meter Calculator
Calculate how many nominal units a running metre of web produces from repeat length and lane count. Also translate fixed unit targets into the corresponding running length.

First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Units per linear meter
Nominal units before process waste; repeat includes the machine-direction pitch of each production unit.
Units/m = 1,000 ÷ repeat (mm) × lanes
1,000 ÷ 250 × 2 = 8 units/mSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.

The formula, made clear.
The repeat is the machine-direction distance consumed by each unit position, and lanes are the unit positions across the web. One metre divided by repeat gives repeat equivalents per metre; multiplying by lanes gives nominal units per running metre. Web width and GSM are unnecessary for this length-to-count conversion, though they are needed to extend the calculation to area or mass.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter the machine-direction repeat and choose its length unit.
- 02
Enter a positive whole number of lanes.
- 03
Read nominal units per metre and the running lengths needed for the displayed unit targets.
A calculation you can check
The example uses a known repeat and lane layout to connect running length with nominal unit output.
- Print / pack repeat
- 250 mm
- Lanes across the web
- 2 lanes
1,000 ÷ 250 × 2 = 8 units/mCheck the displayed formula and units against your quotation. Use measured GSM, net weight and actual layout dimensions where available. Default densities are planning assumptions, not certified material properties. Calculated cost does not certify strength, compatibility or safe loading.
