Material Required for Order Calculator
Plan running metres, square metres and kilograms of film needed to produce a target quantity of good packs. Use the actual web layout and expected process loss.
Use a saved product specification (optional)

First time using this calculator?
Replace the example values with figures from your supplier sheet or measurements. Choose the unit beside each value. Results update as you type; fix any highlighted field before using the result.
GSM means grams per square metre. Net weight excludes the core and other packaging. MOQ means the minimum order quantity. An optional field can stay blank unless the result you need depends on it.
Prices keep the selected currency; changing its label does not convert an exchange rate. Save or export the result after checking your inputs.
Help with web width
Measure the full width of the flat material from edge to edge, rather than the width of one finished pack. Choose the matching unit.
Use actual supplier or measured GSM when available.
Help with film gsm
GSM is the weight of one square metre of material, in grams. Find it on the supplier specification; use the complete laminate value for layered film.
Percentage of gross input lost.
Help with process waste
Use a measured or supplier-confirmed percentage where possible. Check whether it applies to gross input or finished output; the formula below shows the basis used here.
Gross film required
Waste is the percentage of gross material lost. Gross requirement is net requirement ÷ (1 − waste rate).
Web width and repeat should include the actual production allocation. Any additional fixed setup waste should be planned separately.
Gross units = good units ÷ (1 − waste/100); area = gross units × width × repeat ÷ lanes; kg = area × GSM ÷ 1,000
100,000 ÷ (1 − 5/100) = 105,263.1579 units; × 0.8 × 0.25 ÷ 2 = 10,526.31579 m²; × 80 ÷ 1,000 = 842.1052632 kgSaved calculations stay in this browser. No account or cloud backup is created.
Save to a product project (optional)

Calculated from your inputs. Confirm specifications with your supplier.
How sensitive is this result to your assumptions?
Vary one input and inspect gross film required
All other entered inputs stay fixed. Ranges are your scenarios, not statistical confidence or supplier performance predictions. This uses the same validated calculator engine.
The formula, made clear.
Start with the required accepted units, then divide by the retained fraction to allow for waste as a share of gross input. Convert those gross unit equivalents into running length using repeat and lanes. Full web width converts length to area, and complete-film GSM converts area to kilograms. All three outputs refer to the same gross film requirement, allowing purchasing, scheduling and inventory teams to use their preferred units consistently.
How to use this calculator
- 01
Enter the target good-pack quantity and planned web width, repeat and lanes.
- 02
Supply complete-film GSM and the expected percentage of gross input lost.
- 03
Use the resulting length, area or weight with roll-size planning to establish the purchasing quantity.
